Boombox Dreamcast

I apologize for not posting recently. I have been caught up in other affairs. To start things back up again, I think it would be appropriate to blog about one of my favorite consoles. The Dreamcast has filled up a large portion of hours in my life. Too much Capcom Vs. Snk 2. But, look how cool this case mod is. Theres a video of it in action but its pretty low res and the audio is horrible. But check it out here.

Engineer Speculations

This post is merely me discussing possible engi updates.

Welder:

-replaces wrench
-does 25% less damage to players
-cost 15 less metal to build buildings
- buildings upgrade faster

This is my only real idea for the engineer based off the teaser. Comment with ideas you have!

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

I feel the need to post this trailer. I dislike MVC2 due to its unbalanced gameplay. But still, the idea of taking down the Hulk as Ryu is awesome. Balance the gameplay and this could be my favorite game.

Some indications of Steam for Linux

Now im no computer programmer, aside from my basic knowledge of terminal commands in linux. But apparently some scripting in the soon to come Mac OSX release of steam suggest some Linux support. The idea of finally having Steam in Linux (without WINE getting full support) is amazing sounding. I could finally play TF2 without having to reset my tower and switch to Windows. In fact this task proved very annoying so I have slowly stopped using Linux as much. Read this web page for me details.

P.S. The image has little to do with Linux, more of Steam coming to Mac. Seeing as Linux support surfacing due to Mac integration, I thought this was strangely appropriate. Also, I may not be able to sap that Aperture sentry but I can push it over and it breaks.

Nintendo blames Piracy for 50% decrease in sales

The DS is known for easy piracy. I have only purchased one game for my DS, Pokemon, that way I can play tournaments and such. Otherwise I have downloaded all my games. Nintendo is blaming piracy for their 50 percent decrease in software sales in Europe. Nintendo monitored 10 oversea websites and they racked up over 238 million downloads, roughly equating to 11 billion dollars in lost sales during the month of JUNE ALONE. Obviously not a good quarter in 2009 for software sales. Reasons why this is happening:

1. DS games cost too much for their quality. Lets be honest, a bulk of DS games are not that great. WHy purchase some third party junk when I could test it out by downloading it. 30 bucks for a game that is not great, forget that.

2. People dont like carrying around a bunch of games, why have 10 games, when I can just have my r4.

3. Homebrew, wheres the homebrew at? on the r4! Gives people a chance to check out non approved games, and run emulators.

Nintendo needs to drop the price point of their DS games, they are not worth 30 bucks. Until then, piracy is expected.

MythTv

Im currently considering one of these up in my house. We have no cable or sattelite so it would be nice to have one of these. Although I watch a considerable amount of programs through hulu and other online services, being able to capture tv shows and have a nice built media player for my HD screen would be cool. Just a thought, probably wont make it.

Wall Of Death

I was just lurking the web, before I head off to bed, on some image boards and found a thread of a man driving his car on a wall while another is hanging out the passenger window. Its plain physics that we all know, but its amazingly dangerous. Crazy people out there, watch this outrageous video.

Doomsday Vault

Just read about a vault in Scandinavia that houses half a million different species of seeds, their goal is to protect Biodiversity in plants. The vault would protect the plants from the impending doom of global warming and other apolcalyptic events. The vault also acts as a shelter for people if need be. Comically named the Doomsday Vault, it reminds me of Fallout. Read the post here.

Google Maps now has Bike route filter

Tired of going out for a ride and running into a gigantic grade? Want to discover a new bike path to avoid all the cars? Well now google features a by "bicycling" filter in Google Maps. This is obviously in beta as roads still need to be determined as bike friendly, Google even states to proceed with caution as roads may not be safe. But as with most things, it will get better over time. So check it out, and if you come upon an unsafe street report it. Also it can be fun to race the average time to your destination.

A few things to say about my home theater

Its been about two weeks with my HD setup. I cant stress how much of a distraction this setup has been. I feel no motivation to do any work, I just want to watch movies and play Xbox. Media streaming is awesome. I set my Xbox up as an extender and through Microsoft Media Center I watch movies on my computer. Netflix is also awesome as well. Time to set up parental controls on myself so I start doing my work.

Be Careful!

Never thought about this, just relaying a message I read from Joystiq's blog. The average consumer might not think of this when turning in their next gen system. Now when you purchase things on your console they save your credit card info. SO WIPE YOUR SYSTEM WHEN YOU SELL IT! In general I would never sell any electronics that store data without wiping it first. Interesting prospect though, I imagine a ton of unknowing parents have found huge bills on their card after their son traded in their Wii. You can read the original post here

Bikes in the sky

Although I feel that L.A. streets need some serious changes towards commuting cyclists, I dont believe we should be force to tight rope ride through Los Angeles. Bulgarian architect Martin Angelov has created this interesting method of transportation for cyclists. Looks like a death trap to me, check out the original post here.
